Knee Deep in the Current: Printer Tour

So basically this blog has become a chronicle of my life at Current 360 I have decided. This week I came to work Tuesday afternoon feeling great. I had just returned from a week in Florida, I was tanned and ready to take on the week. It promised to be a very eventful week at Current, mostly because I got to spend one whole day with Martha again! I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to tour the Vivid Impact printer. A very nice man name Dave gave us the full-blown tour. Here I learned all the ins and outs of printing. I never realized how much went into it! We got to look at all the different types of printing as well as how they cut things into shapes. They do just about everything there, they can even print onto wood and vinyl. We saw machines that printed, stapled, cut, and folded. It was amazing to see how evolved technology is becoming in the printing world. After our tour Dave treated us to lunch! It was a fantastic day, a day that I needed. Ta-Ta for now!

  • Current Phrase of the Week:  Offset Lithographic Printing-Offset lithography is a process used for printing on a flat surface, using printing plates. An image is transferred to a printing plate, which can be made of a variety of materials such as metal or paper. The plate is then chemically treated so that only image areas (such as type, colors, shapes and other elements) will accept ink. Water and ink is applied to the plate. Because of the chemical treatment, ink only “sticks” to the image areas, which reject the water. Areas without images reject the ink. The plate is then rolled onto a rubber cylinder applying the inked area, and in turn the rubber cylinder (or “blanket”) applies the image to the paper. The system is “offset” because the plate does not come in direct contact with the paper, which preserves the quality of the plate.”- David Bann. “The All New Print Production Handbook.” Watson-Guptill Publications. 2006. Used in a sentence: We printed the flyers offset instead of digital.
