Will Lunch Ever Make a Comeback?

Mourned by few, the era of 3-martini lunches is long gone. But, is the era of just having lunch with coworkers, clients, or friends also going the way of the dinosaur? Before the pandemic, it seemed like lunch with someone, anyone, was a foregone conclusion. Then quarantine happened. We had to all go our separate ways as restaurants closed dining room doors and set up for contactless delivery. Some shut down entirely, and some are still shut down, so we have fewer options in general.

Just as things were starting to get back to somewhat normal, inflation began to rear its ugly head. Now household budgets are tightening, and people are bringing their lunches from home. It seems like restaurants and midday social masticaters can’t catch a break.

Why does it matter?

Aside from generally being an enjoyable and nourishing work break, lunches help build business relationships, the camaraderie between employees, and friendships. They serve as a chance to blow off steam, hatch new plans, and strengthen bonds. Lunches, especially company lunches, also have the potential to help build culture, not to mention promote mental health. Plus, sometimes it might be nice to have a beer.

Another reason why it matters is that we need to support our local restaurants and their employees. They’re an essential part of the community and the economy.

C360 NETWORKING

A modest proposal.

Let’s force the issue and make it a point to help lunch make a triumphant return. Let’s have lunch. Whether you’re a prospective client, a colleague, someone looking for a job in advertising, or just someone curious about what we do, we’re down for lunch. You know what to do.
