Imagine you’re driving down the interstate and you see a cop on the shoulder up ahead. You can even see that he’s tracking your speed with a radar gun. What do you do? Most of us slow down and go the speed limit. You certainly don’t SPEED UP, right?
Speeding up in front of a cop who’s hunting for speeders is like by-passing traffic at an agency. You shouldn’t do it. Period.
Avoiding traffic can result in your project falling off the radar, stalling on someone’s desk or just plain never getting out of the gate. And, frankly, there’s really no good excuse for it. In our agency, I sit right in the middle of the action. I’m just two steps away from our team bringing me into the loop.
And I get copied on everything in our job management system, so no one can get by me there either.
Is your agency set up so your team can’t get by traffic? If not, you should rethink your setup (both physically and technologically).
