On Music and Being Social

Here’s one for all of you band freaks, music geeks, audiophiles – whatever moniker you prefer. Songkick is a service I recently came across. You create an account (I simply signed in using Facebook Connect) and enter bands you like. You are then presented with lots of suggested bands to “follow.” Then you receive concert info regarding any bands, festival or venues that you follow. Pretty cool. It is integrated with Facebook and twitter with the usual share/recommend/tweet features.
All of that being said, the nail has most likely been driven – thanks to Apple’s new Ping, for which I have high hopes.

I have been steadily nudging my friends to hurry up and create accounts. I like the idea of a social network based around music. Although there are plenty of them out there, none seemed poised to compete on Apple’s level. Feel free to comment below if there are any that are notable.
So, to sum up, forget what i said about Songkick and every other music-centered social network and sign up for ping!
